James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, teacher, and literary critic and is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the 20th century. 'Ulysses' written in 1922 was a milestone in literature. Written in differing literary styles and famously including the style of writing known as 'stream of consciousness' the book follows the fictional character of Leopold Bloom on his peregrinations in Dublin loosely echoing those of Odysseus from Homer's epic poem the Odyssey.
