Born in Kingston, Surrey, Lock originally studied Fashion at Epsom School of Art and Design and worked for many years as a freelance designer and illustrator whilst raising a family in London. Later she went on to study at Chelsea College of Art, graduating in 2002 gaining a BA honours in The Practice and Theory of Fine Art. She moved from London to the South Coast and now paints full-time from her garden studio at home. Living a stone's throw from the sea is a constant source of inspiration. The ever-changing light reflected onto the sea and the rich and varied textures of the coastline are an important influence on her work: ‘Although I draw constantly I prefer to paint intuitively, working directly onto the canvas, allowing the paintings to emerge from a frenzied and chaotic fusion of line, colour and shapes. The process continues with erasing, scratching and gestural mark making until the desired composition and balance is achieved.’
