Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) was an American poet and writer. Well-known for her confessional poetry and post-modernist writing, Plath also wrote many books. The Bell Jar (a semi-autobiographical work) was published a little before her untimely demise in 1963. In 1982, Plath was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. She was married to the poet Ted Hughes.
