Belgian designer Laurence Leenaert moved to Morocco in 2015, with just 400 Euros and a sewing machine, having dropped out of her Masters at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent. From her studio in Sidi Ghanem (an industrial area of northwest Marrakesh), Laurence has successfully developed her distinctive brand LRNCE. Along with the help of a number of local artisans she now produces textiles, ceramics and clothing. With more than a passing nod to Picasso and his contemporaries, asymmetrical lines and shapes mix with Moroccan tribal patterns. About Morocco, Laurence says: “There’s so much freedom here. If you’re creative, it’s endless”.
