James Roberts

For many years, James Roberts worked in design (he has a degree in 3D design). But having drawn and painted since early childhood, and following periods of travel to wild places including close encounters with wild animals such as wolves, hippos, eagle owls and elepahnts, he soon began to dedicate his creative work to the wild. Roberts' process of using inks and salt has evolved over several years. He lives and works in Rhayder, mid-Wales, surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains. Red kites circle above his studio whilst otters and pine martens play in the woods.

Roberts is also a published writer (National Geographic and the Scotsman). His new book Two Lights, about wonder and loss in wild landscapes, was long-listed for the Royal Society of Literature, Ondaatje Prize.
