With a focus on joyful subject matter, the pictures within this exhibition are as much a reflection of Lucy Dickens’ home life and travels abroad as they are a celebration of living in a fascinating world. Family aside, drawing and painting have been a large part of Lucy’s raison d’être. Her desire to record what she sees is untameable though more often than not the ‘seeing’ stems from her fertile imagination. There are canvases depicting the artist's travels abroad – India, Istanbul, Japan and of course far stranger make-believe lands where the viewer encounters wonky bridges over rivers and submarines in the sky. In other works, Wally her whippet is transmogrified into various guises and stags appear standing proudly in their ancestral homes. Lucy’s canvases and collages are a delight – each one executed in her inimitable style, and lightly peppered with her trademark sense of humour.
